A New Skin Care Routine

IMG_0856

I have always struggled with finding the best skin care routine. Leaving my face out of the discussion, I’ve never been very good about taking care of the skin on the rest of my body. And by that, I mean not at all, other than putting on moisturizer after hot showers. When I think of it. Which isn’t often. In the spirit of the new year, I decided that I wanted to make a change in my skin care routine (along with other goals focused on my physical wellbeing).

I had read about body brushes in a few places, all with positive reviews. So I decided to see what all the hype was about. I ordered this brush, made with all natural bristles, which can be used for both wet and dry brushing and is said to be good for sensitive skin. A positive for me. I now have a (somewhat consistent) routine of using the brush after I shower followed by moisturizing. In only a few days, I started to notice a difference in the smoothness and evenness of the skin on my arms and legs. I couldn’t believe how quickly it had started to work. According to the label, the brush is meant to tone, exfoliate, and smooth skin while boosting circulation. Not sure if all of this is true, but I certainly see a change.

And speaking of moisturizers, I’ve tried many different options over the years but I had never thought of using a body butter. Let me just say, there is a huge difference. It goes on so smooth and you can feel the effects almost instantly. These three body butters from Trader Joe’s are surprisingly good. Who knew that TJ’s had a skincare line? The three main ingredients (besides water) are coconut oil, shea butter, and aloe, all three creating a soothing effect on dry skin. And the three scents (coriander, orange clove, and fresh pear) are so refreshing. I’m especially partial to the fresh pear for springtime. They are somewhat strong smelling in the tin but once they absorb into your skin, create a much more subtle scent.

I’m excited about my new routine and the positive effects I’m already seeing. Now I just have to keep it up. 🙂 What are some of your tried and true routines? Anything else I should experiment with?
